The purpose of this Blog

This blog is to detail my 50 years (1973 - 2023) with a 1928 Chevrolet tourer, affectionately called "The Red Chev".

The acquisition, restoration, improvements and my experiences over the years are covered in as much detail as I can remember.

Some of the later postings include car club outings and other vintage car items that I hope will be of interest to people.

If you have the time, scroll back to where it all began in 1973 and follow the journey so far.

Thanks for dropping by.

Regards Ray Dean

1917 Model T with Vintage 4 Wheel Drive Conversion Ploughing through the snow

1917 Model T driving around in several feet of snow. This Model T has an accessory Livingood four-wheel-drive attachment, otherwise it is stock. It is dressed up to look like a WWI vehicle. Jesse Livingood is sometimes credited with inventing 4WD. His first patent was issued in 1912. He started selling conversion units in 1914. There is no evidence that the US government used 4WD T's in WWI.

1928 Chev - I think it escaped from a circus!!

Found this on ebay, good starting point, but would have to tarp it on the way home

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1928-Chevrolet-/201269450790?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item2edc981826

And the story goes........

1928 Chevrolet Tourer...needs LOTS of work but over 90 % complete.......... Was purchased in late 80,S  from a farm auction as a total rusted ,not complete wreck..Basically saved it from the scrap dealer. .......... Has been totally stripped down, every nut and bolt, rust cleaned and repainted and re assembled. ........... Parts that was not with the car ,where found at many swap meets around the same time.............  Some item like seats and wiring etc are not original but under that the basic car is all 1928. except engine 27  Engine runs and car drives. ............  The engine is a 1927.. 28 engines have push rod covers and two port exhaust manifolds.......... I restored this from a wreck to a '' sorta''  drivable car when I  was younger.. It has sat in a few sheds over the past 25 years with nothing done to it. ....... Six  volt system and the Battery does NOT go with the car -   I borrowed the battery so you can hear it run etc.  Car is located in a lock up in Moama ,over border from Echuca.   I always had the dream to one day pull it down and totally restore but it hasnt happened ..........Dreams Die........
